Committees

As a volunteer run organization PVDA is comprised of various committees. Meet great people while supporting PVDA’s diverse programs and member benefits. Whatever your skills are, they are needed and can be put to good use within PVDA. It’s a great opportunity to work together with other like-minded horse people and really make a difference! If you have any questions about any of our committees please contact a committee member. Any member is welcome to join a committee and we strongly encourage the participation of our members-at-large. You can see more about each committee below, listed alphabetically.

Awards Committee

The Awards Committee sponsors several awards programs for the PVDA membership. These include Year End High score awards, Rider Achievement Awards, Recognized Show Awards, Breed Awards, and a few Special Year End Awards. If you would like to sponsor an award please let us know and we will help you make it happen. Or, if you ever have new ideas for awards programs you would like to see offered – please let us know and we will be happy to consider it.

The Awards committee is also responsible for purchasing all of the beautiful awards that riders receive at Recognized Shows and Schooling Shows. The awards committee is committed to decorating your walls with beautiful ribbons and decorative items reminding you of the wonderful journey you and your talented equine partner have traveled.

See more about the awards programs available on our awards page.

Chapters Committee

Chapters provide a more local option for PVDA members, they are sub-groups of the parent organization. To be a member of a chapter you must first join PVDA. The chapters committee works as a liaison between the chapters and the board, ensuring that members are aware of any updates or events, facilitating financial reporting, approving and awarding educational subsidies to the chapters, and hosting the annual Waverly-on-Chester Chapter Challenge.

See more about chapters on our chapters page.

Education Committee

The education committee supports PVDA's primary objective which is to promote the art and sport of dressage through education. The education committee plans and coordinates several clinics and symposiums each year with renowned clinicians.

PVDA members and volunteers usually receive discounted or even free admission to these events. Some recurring events include the new test clinics and the annual Team is for Training. Past events including a Master Class with Catherine Haddad, a symposium with Christoph Hess as well as talks, clinics, and symposiums with other top riders like Debbie McDonald, Heather Mason, and USDF President George Williams to name a few.
Education Chair: Nancy Bowlus - education@pvda.org

Finance Committee

The Finance committee is chaired by the Treasurer of PVDA and is responsible for the financial decisions of the organization. In addition to the Treasurer, the committee is composed of the Vice President, Schooling Shows Treasurer, and the chairs of every other PVDA committee. The Finance committee receives all scholarship applications, chapter financial reports, and sets the annual budget.

Governance Committee

The Governance committee is responsible for overseeing the Board of Directors and ensuring the adherence to the organization’s bylaws. Members of the Governance committee include the entire executive committee (President, Vice President, Treasurer, Chairman, and Secretary) and the chair of the ad hoc nominating committee. In addition to the Bylaws and Constitution, this group is also tasked with association insurance and legal council. The nominating sub-committee is responsible for gathering nominations to the Board of Directors in the fall of every year.

The Library and Documents committee takes care of maintaining the PVDA archive of newsletters, board meeting minutes, photographs, horse show program, and various news clippings where PVDA is mentioned, usually from the Equiery or Dressage Today, and even from Horse and Hound! The committee also maintains a huge library of dressage related books and videos that are available for our members to borrow for FREE- except we do ask the member to pay the shipping charges.

Special Events Committee

The special events committee handles any event that isn't education or show related, for example the annual award dinner, a both a local equine expos, etc. The annual dinner is a huge undertaking including reserving a facility large enough to host over 100 members, provide a diverse menu for attendees, coordinate decorations, a guest speaker, the event schedule, audio/visual supplies, a member supplied slideshow, a quality printed event program, and amazing silent auction, raffles, and more!
Chair: Mimi Mack - mimimack58@comcast.net

Volunteer Committee

The volunteer committee is charged with recruiting and coordinating volunteers for our five recognized shows and finding volunteers for other special events as requested. The types of volunteers we need at shows include scribes, ring stewards, scorers, office assistants, runners. For non-show events we usually need help with set up and tear down, transportation, the newsletter, graphic design, fundraising, and more! Volunteers earn volunteers gifts (usually logo wear) plus certificates for a $10 credit towards the cost of membership, show entries (PVDA schooling shows only), PVDA clinics, the annual dinner, and other events. Certificates can also be used to gain priority entry into oversubscribed schooling shows. Volunteer hours are also required to qualify for year end awards.

Website Committee

Websites are an invaluable tool for organizations. This new site (as of 2018) is strongly tied to our membership and provides a clean, streamlined approach to information. If a page has related topics you'll find them link at the top of each page. Each member has their own profile, similar to social media platforms. You can create your own pages and blogs and you can control how public or private your information is, however please note that non-members can not see your information, only other logged in members can, when you allow it. Chapters and other groups can also create and maintain their own pages! We're excited to grow this new site with each of you.
